Your first Reformer Pilates class: what to expect

Never been on a Reformer? Here’s what happens in your first class with Cassie in Mernda, what to bring and how we find the right level for you.

By Cassie ·

Never been on a Reformer? That’s completely fine. You don’t need to know the moves, be flexible or feel confident before you start. That’s my job.

It’s a small class

There are never more than three women in a class. That means I can see how you’re moving, explain things as we go and answer your questions. Nobody is racing to keep up.

How a class runs

  • Reformer warm-up. We start on the Reformer with controlled carriage work and breathing to help you settle in.
  • Strength block. We move to the floor for low-impact strength work. We practise familiar movements and build up gradually.
  • Core and mobility. We finish back on the Reformer with stability, core and mobility work.

Every exercise has options. I’ll help you choose the springs and the version that suits you on the day.

What to bring

Wear clothes you can move comfortably in and bring a water bottle. Ask me about footwear before your first class. Members get Pilates grip socks with their membership.

Tell me what’s going on

If you have an injury, are pregnant or have recently had a baby, or have any medical restrictions, tell me before class. Check with your doctor or physio if you’re unsure whether exercise is right for you at the moment. I’m a coach, not a medical practitioner.

Show up as you are

Tired? Busy week? Haven’t trained in years? Come anyway. We start where you are and build from there. Have a look at the class times or ask me a question first.
